Liwanag at Dunong is a non-governmental organization that seeks to uplift the Aeta Indigenous People. We hope to raise and support the Aetas by providing education, development of skills, and cultural preservation efforts, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are acknowledged. PROJECT LIWANAG AT DUNONG ALSO AIMS TO:
Raise Awareness
Raise awareness on the continuing struggle of the Aeta communities with their rights to their ancestral lands, self-determination, and basic services;
Stronger Solidarity
Build more alliances and further strengthen the solidarity between the community and Aeta advocates; and finally,
Empowerment of Aeta Communities
Contribute to the empowerment of the Aeta community by recognizing their voice and role in the conduct of the project itself—debunking the prevailing notion that they are mere project beneficiaries and emphasizing instead that they can freely exercise their agency to determine their role in the process, and their right to refuse or approve a project according to its perceived value to their community.

Aeta Learning Center
Before commencing the construction, Our technical team, consisting of engineering students and dedicated volunteers, initially designed a structure that incorporates indigenous materials such as cogon and bamboo to harmonize with the community's surroundings and culture.
Following extensive consultations with the community and new project partners, the original design was fortified with additional materials to ensure its long-lasting durability and practicality.
The male members of the community joined forces to construct the ALC, utilizing materials provided by IP supporters. As a token of gratitude for their active involvement in the construction of the ALC and their contributions to community development, they received food support.
The structure's design features an outer wall with mural art inspired by Aeta children's drawings. With the help of creative volunteers and the contributions of all the workers involved in the project, the art has become a popular photo spot for many tourists and volunteers who continue to support Liwanag at Dunong.
At present, the ALC administers an adult literacy program, aiding community members in obtaining a Certificate of Completion for Basic Education through the Alternative Learning System. Construction commenced in March 2022 and concluded in November 2022.
